Purpose of the Job:
To conduct accurate mine surveys, prepare topographical and mine maps, and provide surveying data for effective mine planning, production monitoring, and compliance with statutory requirements.
Job Description:
- Mines Surveyor certificate from DGMS is mandatory.
- Carry out mine surveying including topographical surveys, contour mapping, and boundary marking.
- Prepare and maintain accurate mine maps, daily survey sheets, and cross-sections.
- Provide surveying data to support drilling, blasting, excavation, and resource planning.
- Monitor mine progress and update reserves and production reports.
- Ensure compliance with DGMS, IBM, and Metalliferous Mines Regulations (MMR, 2017) in surveying practices.
- Operate surveying instruments (Total Station, GPS, Theodolite) and maintain their calibration.
- Coordinate with Mines Foreman, Blasting Foreman, and Geologist to align surveying with operational requirements.
- Assist in planning haul roads, pit development, and bench layouts based on survey data.
- Train and guide junior survey staff on proper techniques and safety practices.
- Contribute to progressive mine closure and reclamation plans through accurate mapping and documentation.
Qualification:
Diploma / Degree in Mining Engineering, Surveying, or equivalent.
Experience:
5–8 years of experience in open-cast mining survey operations, with hands-on experience in using surveying instruments and preparing mine maps.

- Knowledge of DGMS, IBM, and MMR compliance requirements.

Internal Stakeholders:
Mines Manager, Mines Foreman, Geologist, Blasting Foreman, Production, and Planning teams.
Nature of Interactions:
- Provide surveying data to support mine operations and production planning.
- Coordinate with team members to ensure alignment with excavation and blasting activities.
External Stakeholders:
DGMS, IBM, Local authorities, Mining contractors (limited interaction).
Nature of Interactions:
- Ensure statutory compliance in mine mapping and survey records.
- Support audits and inspections through accurate documentation.
Position is Accountable For:
- Accurate mine surveying, mapping, and documentation.
- Timely provision of survey data for mine operations and planning.
- Compliance with statutory and environmental requirements.
- Support in efficient pit development and excavation planning.
Freedom to Act:
Works independently for surveying activities within approved operational limits. Major survey plans and statutory submissions are reviewed by Mines Manager.
Department KPIs (Objectives):
- Accuracy and timeliness of survey data.
- Compliance with DGMS, IBM, and statutory requirements.
- Support for optimized mine planning and production efficiency.
- Maintenance and proper handling of surveying equipment.
Work Environment:
Field-based work in open-cast mines with exposure to dust, uneven terrain, and outdoor conditions. Strict adherence to PPE and safety regulations is mandatory.
